HISPANIC CONNECT / TEAM AWARDED CLC (Connecting Learning Community) GRANT BY MICROSOFT CORPORATION

Austin, Texas, - Hispanic Connect and TEAM Lab announced today that it has received a grant from Microsoft for $15,000.00 in cash plus back-end and front-end software. Hispanic Connect /TEAM Lab, is one of 21 organizations selected from across the nation to receive a donation in this most recent round of Microsoft’s Connected Learning Community (CLC) grants, which totals nearly 310,000.00 in cash and $960,000.00 in software. The grant will be used for supporting Hispanic Connect’s existing "Cyber-Community Collaboration Program."

Hispanic Connect received a $22,000 grant from the City of Austin's Grant for Technology Opportunities Program (GTOP) for it’s Cyber-Community Collaboration Program and it’s Cyber-Cafe Project last month.

"Microsoft is thrilled to support Hispanic Connect and TEAM Lab, " said Bruce Brooks, director of community affairs, Microsoft. " We believe that when people are given the tools and resources they need, they can do amazing things for themselves and their communities"

Since the Connected Learning Community program began in 1996, a total of 187 CLC grants have been awarded to 175 non-profit organizations nationwide, for a total of over $2.5 million in cash and $8.6 million in software donations to date. The mission of the CLC program grew out of Microsoft’s corporate goal to make it easier and more enjoyable for people to take advantage of personal computing every day. While Microsoft does this by creating new tools to help people reach their potential, the CLC program connects people to PC and Internet technology that empowers them to achieve their dream.

Created in 1983, Microsoft Community Affairs Program is one of the first philanthropic efforts in the high-tech industry. Overall, Microsoft seeks to empower people and communities in discovering a better future through technology. Last year, Microsoft gave more than $34.3 million in cash and $200 million in software to nearly 5,000 non-profits organizations to improve technology access to underserved communities, to strengthen nonprofits through technology, and to expand and diversify the technology workforce.
