The Mission of the Austin Independent School District is to educate all our
AISD supports community afterschool programs such as the Cyber
Surfer Program being piloted at Zavala Elementary and Martin Jr. High. The City of
Austin Telecommunications Commission recently chose the Cyber Surfer Collboration Programs
as a program that supports community, collaboration and neighborhood. The Schools at
AISD are the flagships in these new and innovative afterschool programs.

The Texas Association for Bilingual
Education (TABE), founded in San Antonio, Texas in 1972, is a state advocacy organization
for the rights of language minority children. The TABE network is comprised of local
school district and universities student affiliated groups representing all major
geographical regions of Texas. TABE members include parents, early childhood education
personnel, elementary and secondary school teachers and administrators, college students,
professors and university researchers. TABE is affiliated with the National Association
for Bilingual Education (NABE).
In
1972, St. Edward's University, a small Catholic college, responded to the higher
educational needs of migrant students by developing and hosting one the nation's first
College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP).
Established as a freshman level scholarship program, CAMP is designed to offer an educational opportunity to the sons and daughters of migrant and seasonal farmworkers. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education and St. Edward's University, CAMP has assisted more than 1800 students since 1972. Forty students are chosen to participate in the program each year.

Established in 1973, ACC serves Central Texas
with general educationprograms that transfer to Texas colleges and universities; workforce
training programs; continuing education; and adult basic education. The college has six
campuses, two centers serving the needs of area businesses, and evening sites at area high
schools. More than 26,000 credit students attend ACC each fall, and the College serves
more than 60,000 people annually.

Association of Bilingual Education
Promoting educational excellence and equity through bilingual education, the National
Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) is the only national organization exclusively
concerned with the education of language-minority students in American schools.
University
of Texas Center for Mexican Amercian Studies
| CMAS attempts to fulfill its mission by offering courses and programs to the UT community, including an undergraduate liberal arts degree program in which students can major or minor in Mexican American studies. CMAS also co-sponsors a variety of programs that offer specialized training for graduate students, and administers a wide range of research and teaching assistantships, internships, post-docs, and grants for its faculty associates. The Center also assists academic departments in recruiting and retaining faculty with interests in Mexican American Studies. |
